3790LMT 3D Terrain View 3790LMT Portrait View
3790LMT Review
Latest and GreatestThe Garmin 3790LMT is currently the latest and the top of the line for their Nuvi GPS navigation line. This is a full featured navigator and as the LMT designates it has lifetime traffic updates. One of the first things you will notice about this unit is the ultra thin size and if not looked at closely could resemble an iPhone. Originally listed at $499, and then recently seen at $399, this device can be purchased for much less at the link highlighted below.

What’s New on This Device
This device comes with a micro USB connector as well a corresponding cable to connect it to your computer.
The screen is a beautiful glass display that is a capacitive touch screen. You will find this model display to be about the brightest you will have seen and it goes without saying that it is very viewable in bright sun, even at high angles. You will find this screen to be much more responsive than previous models, taking less pressure to initiate a key stroke or dragging and panning on the display.
Another new improvement to note is there is now a built in accelerometer which allows you to rotate the unit from portrait to landscape.

TrafficTrends Feature
To calculate routes, the 3700 series of GPS Nuvi's uses historical road speed data to calculate your routes. This helps to improve the routing function, especially in areas with major traffic problems. This feature also will learn your most used routes that are routine such as going to work and back or any other route that you use a lot. It will also predict the time of arrival based on traffic flow. This feature can be enabled or disabled by going into the "MyTrends" folder.
Garmin has also added a voice command feature to the 3790LMT that can be activated by using a wake up command of your choosing. This can be useful when trying to input a new destination while on the go.
Speaker and Mount
The mount for the 3790LMT is powered and has it's own speaker integrated into it as well as the speaker in unit itself. This makes for lots of volume which most people will find very useful.
3D Terrain Map
The 3D imagery is found only on the 3790 models and is quite stunning to look at especially if you are travelling through the mountains. While not providing a lot of functionality, it does make the screen look interesting. It will also display all buildings in a 3d format that look quite real bur are available in large metro areas only.
Carried Over Features
Lane assist and junction view are two very useful features that are retained in the 3790LMT. Lane assist works by letting you know about 2 miles out from an exit to get into the correct lane so you do not miss the exit. The junction view feature, which is not available in all areas, brings up an image to show you what your upcoming turn looks like. These features are a must for travelling in unknown territory, especially when travelling through large complicated interchanges where it is easy to get lost.
Speed Limits
Garmin posts speed limits on the map and will have it turn red if you go over the limit. It has been shown that for the most part these displayed limits are accurate; there are instances where they are not, so be diligent in verifying with the posted road signs.
Bluetooth Connectivity
There is a Bluetooth interface in the 3790LMT for hands free calling. You can store contacts, accept and end calls through the unit. This will be a great feature for those who do not have this feature already in their car.

Conclusion
Some people who try this unit will say that it is Garmin's best Nuvi yet. While others will say there are some things lacking such as the voice command link and the weaker Bluetooth. This may be true but should be fixed with future firmware updates. With that said, this unit is highly recommended for the work of art that it is.
